Belchite, Aragón

Where

Belchite sits almost exactly on the centreline, about 45 km south-east of Zaragoza. It is a small town with a famous ruin and, for ninety seconds, the best view in Europe.

When to be there

Be in position by 19:00. First contact is around 19:33 and the light starts going strange long before anyone expects it to. Totality is at 20:29:24.

Your eyes

Certified eclipse glasses for every moment except totality itself. During those 86 seconds — and only then — take them off. We will tell you when.

The horizon

The sun is barely 6° up. Anything on the western skyline — a ridge, a row of trees, a building — will take the eclipse with it. Height and a clear west-north-west view win.
